What a cute puppy Grace is. Bet she had a fantastic time running around the forest. Have really enjoyed all of your posts, thank you for sharing all of them with the rest of us. HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and yours!

It is March and spring is upon us, even if it comes in fits and starts. Each week a new bird species seems to appear out of nowhere. This week it was Chipping and Field Sparrows. See if you can tell these two species apart...Chipping sparrows are best recognized by their dark rusty caps, bold black eyeline, dark bill, and unstreaked belly. Field Sparrows also have an unstreaked belly, but they lack a black eye line and instead have a subtle white eye ring. Their best identifying trait is their pinkish bill.

Here are a pair of Blue-winged Teal captured toward evening last week in Texas. It was the golden hour, and the water they were floating on glistened like glass. Note the conspicuous white crescent on the male's face and the heavy speckling on his body. Their blue shoulder patches are only visible in flight. #bluewingedteal

Here's another green-head for St. Patty's Day! In addition to its bold color pattern, the Northern Shoveler has a big shovel-shaped bill that acts like a colander for feeding in the water. The bill-size alone really makes them stand out from the crowd!

#wildlifewednesday I set up a new trail camera in the yard right before I left for Texas. Looks like some of the neighbors moved in and had a good time--day and night!

Ok Lassies and Laddies! There's a pot of gold at the end of your rainbow if you play it right on St. Patrick's Day! Not everyone looks good in green, but count on the Green-winged Teal for ideas on how to coordinate your colors with style…for instance, try a green accent with something else you’re wearing! A simple splash of brown or a swirl of cinnamon will definitely accentuate your shamrock green. Enjoy the day!

Lots of views of a male Pine Warbler this week, gorging himself at the feeder and singing in the trees. They seem to eat just about anything this time of year--suet, worms, peanuts, birdseed. Note the greenish back, yellow throat, streaky sides, incomplete eye ring, and dark gray wings with white wing bars. #pinewarbler

First thing this morning, the young Cooper's Hawk cleared the yard of birds just by showing up for breakfast. I think I’ll entitle the video “Where’d They Go?”!

Two beautiful Ross's Geese spotted today at the NRV Fairgrounds in Dublin. This species is considered a rare visitor in these parts. They breed in northern Canada.
