A female Ruby-throated Hummingbird coming in tonight for happy hour!

A cardinal a day keeps the doctor away. (Or more generally, in difficult times, find respite in doing the things you love.)

There is solace in nature. Go and find it this weekend.

Ahhh... Maybe it's for pure relaxation and enjoyment, or maybe it is for some other biological reason, but bird "sunning" behavior seems to be the rage this time of year.

Moth mullein is a biennial and gets its name from the attractive stamens at the center of the flower. Look closely--they look like MOTH ANTENNAE!

The Eastern Kingbird is a flycatcher--built for catching insects on the wing. It can easily be confused with an Eastern Phoebe, but note the larger size, white-tipped tail and overall darker color.

Here's a baby bluejay taking a "sunbath" on the porch railing-- in the hottest part of the afternoon! With his new feathers all puffed up and his mouth agape, he was quite the sight! (The odd stars in his eyes came from the window screen--I captured these photos through my kitchen window.) #bluejay

It's fun watching the parade of juvenile birds that are finding their way alone now.

There's something about seeing a woodpecker out on a branch— instead of on a tree trunk—that seems out of the ordinary. #redbelliedwoodpecker
